Meet Henni Arup,
Senior
Manager, Economic and Social Policy

Henni has extensive expertise in economic and social policy having worked in leadership roles within the Australian Government and in consulting for over 15 years domestically and internationally.

At the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Henni had a focus on advancing Australia’s trade and economic agendas, including economic development, across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. This included leading the development and implementation of significant economic strategies for the Australian Government; negotiating international trade and economic agreements; and the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of Australian-funded development programs. Her experience included working as a diplomat in Indonesia, with responsibility, among others, for management of Australia’s flagship economic governance program.

At the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Henni worked as a policy adviser on the launch of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and in the then Strategy and Delivery Division, which focused on providing high-quality strategic policy and advice to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

As an economic and public policy consultant, she worked on several projects for private and public clients, including many Australian Government and state and territory departments, with a particular focus on the evaluation and the analysis of social policies — including the health, education, community services, housing and a focus on improving access to services for disadvantaged populations such as Indigenous Australians and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Henni holds a Master’s of Law, Governance and Development from the Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Arts (History and Political Science) and Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from the University of Melbourne. Her Master’s thesis research assessed the impact trade agreements have on women in developing countries.

What is your favourite quote?

'Anyone who thinks they are too small to make a difference has never tried to fall asleep with a mosquito in the room' - Christine Todd Whitman

What is the best part about working at Equity?

Four C's: The clients, the content, my colleagues and the culture.

What can clients expect from you?

Rigour, hard-work and partnership. Having long-term experience working on both sides of consulting, I know how to ensure projects are a genuine partnership with clients, where we work together to achieve their goals. I also bring big picture, strategic and system-wide thinking but still ensure advice is practical, implementable and doesn't miss out on important details.
