Meet Jessica Del Rio,
Strategic Adviser, Government and Public Finance

Jessica is a social, fiscal, and public policy expert, providing advice grounded in a deep appreciation of government decision-making contexts and processes. 

She has extensive experience at senior executive levels in the federal government in the departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Social Services and Home Affairs. 

Her experience internationally includes as a senior executive in the Canadian Finance and Treasury departments. She has also worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and AusAID. 

She has a proven track record of effectively managing diverse teams, including those with over 200 employees. She is proud that in staff survey results 100% of her branch said they would go the extra mile and 100% said they understood how their role contributed to achieving an outcome for the Australian public.

Jessica has delivered significant social policy reforms through to implementation including through her management of an infrastructure program for remote Aboriginal communities. She was also responsible for improving service delivery for recently arrived migrants through her management of the $250m per annum Adult Migrant English Program. Jessica led a significant reform which means that migrants now have unlimited access to free English language tuition, while successfully steering the program through the financial and service delivery impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since joining Equity Economics, Jessica has brought her policy experience to bear in designing program interventions across diverse areas in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, education and immigration affairs. Jessica led work to estimate the gap in expenditure for closing the health gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and non-Indigenous Australians. She has also produced for clients a series of paper outlining the investment required to lift literacy outcomes for school students through the implementation of evidence-based approaches. Jessica has also produced a policy paper on initiatives to lift the economic participation of migrant women.
